Old Forge and Tug Hill are two separate, but exciting places
to stay and play at. As loyal as some people are to the type
of sled they drive, some are just as loyal to the area they
ride.
The distinguishing difference is Old Forge requires a permit
to ride their trails. I know this may be a deal
breaker for some, however the permit is worth it...
The trails are well groomed and maintained 7 days a week,
weather permitting.
Often people ask which side I prefer. Tug Hill is more
rural and receives more snow on average than Old Forge.
Old Forge is not short on snow by any means... They do
have small shops, museums and local points of interest that cater to tourists. I
love them both... I'm fortunate enough to ride often and
enjoy a change.
A lot of people travel from one side to the other, doing
what is called a "loop". This can be done without
a permit. I highly suggest getting a map. If
you will be riding the area on weekends, stick to
secondary trails for the best ride. The main corridor
trails tend to get a lot of traffic and can get
bumpy.
